How this simulator works

You start with play money you can adjust freely. Every purchase deducts its cost from your available cash and creates (or adds to) a position at an average buy price. The "Simulate market movement" button randomly moves each position's current price, the way a real market would from one day to the next. Selling a position credits your cash with the proceeds at the displayed current price. Everything is stored locally in your browser — nobody else can see your portfolio.

What is this simulator for?

It's an educational playground for understanding the basics of stock investing — diversification, average cost, volatility — with zero real financial stakes. Prices don't come from any real market feed: you, or the random simulator, set them. Never use this data to make real investment decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Are the prices shown real stock quotes?

No. This simulator doesn't connect to any real market data source. You set the purchase price yourself, and the "Simulate market movement" button moves prices randomly, purely for educational purposes.

How is the average buy price calculated?

If you buy the same ticker more than once, the average buy price is recalculated by weighting each purchase by its quantity, the same way a real broker would.

What happens when I sell part of a position?

Your cash is credited for the quantity sold at the current price, and the remaining quantity of the position decreases accordingly. The average buy price stays unchanged.

Is my data saved?

Yes, your portfolio is saved directly in your browser (local storage). It's never sent to any server and stays private, but it will be lost if you clear this browser's data.

Can I change the starting capital?

Yes, enter the amount you want and click "Reset with this capital". Note that this clears all your current positions.

Can this simulator advise me on real investments?

No. This is an educational tool with fictional data, and it is never a substitute for real investment advice.
